Julie R. McSwain, MD, MPH, FASA, Professor in the Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina, will be stepping down as Chair of the ASA-CoGA effective October 23rd, following the ASA conference. She has been one of the most influential chairs in that position, achieving several high-impact accomplishments.

Dr. Itay Bentov, the current SAGA Secretary, will succeed her as Chair. Dr. Bentov is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine and an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. Bentov earned his M.D. from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and his Ph.D. from the Tel Aviv University-NIH graduate partnership program. His clinical and research focus includes perioperative care for older patients and the mechanisms governing their response to injury. He has received research support as a principal investigator from the NIA/NIH and the UW royalty research fund, studying clinical, radiological, and biochemical factors related to aging, vulnerability, and frailty. Additionally, Dr. Bentov serves as the UW site co-director for the NIH-funded Medical Student Training in Aging Research (MSTAR) Program.
